A HOMESHARE PROGRAM FOR VASHON
VHH Homeshare
As part of a comprehensive effort to meet current demand while we build for the future, Vashon HouseHold developed a home sharing program based on a similar and very successful program run by the Associated Ministries in Tacoma. We have already matched almost 50 home seekers with home providers, and look forward to expanding in the future!
Our program is on pause while we secure resources to staff it, but we look forward to re-launching in 2026 and providing new matches.
So, what is a home share?
Vashon HouseHold’s Home Share is a non traditional housing program working to meet the island’s housing needs. Home Share has an extensive matching process to assist in renting out spaces through screening and interviewing parties, providing support and clarity in agreements, and offering assistance should there be disagreements and will even provide mediation should the need arise. Home Share is here to set up situations that benefit everyone and will be there to make sure this happens through the first six months of the living arrangement.
Home Providers (households with an extra bedroom or more space to share) and Home Seekers (people needing a place to live) create clearly stated agreed upon guidelines for becoming house or property mates. These arrangements are set and agreed upon by the Home Provider and the Home Sharer. Vashon Household does not have any income requirements or stipulations to be a part of this program. We are only here to support and encourage the best arrangements for housing situations. Home sharing allows the Home Provider to generate income, trade rent for assistance with basic chores if needed, or build companionship to help them thrive and remain safely in their home. Home sharing provides much needed housing options to Home Seekers.
Home Share arrangements and agreements are set and agreed upon by the Home Provider and the Home Sharer. Vashon Household does not have any requirements or stipulations to be a part of this program. Vashon HouseHold and the Home Share Program are not part of the agreement and are not property managers or rental agents. Our role is to support and encourage the best arrangements for housing situations. The terms of those situations are up to the parties involved.
